Steps to follow to successfully
obtain small business loans for women

The following are steps to
follow to successfully obtain small business loans for
women.
Every year, more and
more women
are starting small businesses with the hopes of becoming successful and
escaping the restrictions of corporate life. Owning your own business
can provide freedom and opportunity for personal and financial growth.
Inevitably, if you decide to take the chance on yourself, you will face
the need of attaining financial assistence. Whether your business is in
the start-up phase or you are already established, planning and
strategy need to be used when applying for small business loans for
women.
- The first step is to develop a clear, well written business plan.
Your plan should describe your business, financial and marketing goals
as well as your plan to achieve them. You should include research you
have prepared on the industry you are in and how your business will fit
in and succeed in this industry. Identify the need for your business
and how you can fill this need.
- Research different
agencies, both on the local and federal level,
that help small businesses, especially female
owned businesses. The SBA (Small Business Administration) is an
excellent place to start and Internet research can help guide you to
banks and lenders that are especially open to small business loans for
women.
-To prepare for a loan application
you should request a copy of your credit report and repair any problems
it may reflect. If you notice errors or inaccuracies you should contact
the agency that reported the problem and try to resolve it. If you
believe the report is in error, make sure you document all your
correspondence so you can report it directly to the credit bureau if
you are unsuccessful in having the creditor remove the error yourself.
Keep all these records on hand and be prepared to answer any questions
that the lender will ask each regarding each line item on your credit
report. Be ready with a good explanation of any “negative” entries on
your credit report.
- If you have had a positive relationship in the past with a bank or
lending institution that should be the first place you start.
-You should be able to explain to the lender why you need the loan and
what you are planning to do with the money. Be prepared to answer
questions as to the necessity of the funding. Also be ready to explain
your plan of repayment.
-Most importantly, you need to be able to prove that you will able to
pay the loan back. You want to have cash flow forecasts predicting the
profitability of your business. You will probably asked to put up
collateral such as your home or automobile. You need to decide whether
or not that is a viable option before you are sitting across from the
lender. Have a financial statement of your businesses assets and
debits, including any small business loans for women you may have had
in the past.
- The lending institution will probably ask for tax returns, both
personal and business ones if your business is already in existence.
-You should be ready to sell yourself, your accomplishments and explain
any roadblocks you have overcome in the past.
-Dress professionally and appear well groomed. Even if your business is
home-based and you tend to work much of the day in your bathrobe, you
should leave the fuzzy slippers at home and appear serious and
corporate-like.
In the current economic climate, banks and lending institutions are
holding tight onto their money, but small
business loans for women are available and with a little planning
and great organizational skills, attaining a loan can be an achievable
goal.
