Southdale Center Celebrates 50th Anniversary at 56 Reunion Sock Hop with Party Pro, Patty Sachs Minneapolis, MN: On Saturday, October 14th, a highlight of 50 Days of Celebrations features a back-to-the-fifties bash to honor local High School Classes of 56. These on-going festivities commemorate the golden anniversary of the opening of Southdale Center, the first indoor shopping center in the nation, which took place in 1956. The Class of 56 Reunion Sock Hop planners will pull out all the stops to salute graduates who share the anniversary with the Edina, Minnesota shopping center phenomenon. Grand dame of party planning and 56 graduate of Minneapolis West High School, Patty Sachs, will lend her expertise in creating a nostalgic, entertaining, fun and frolic event. Sachs says, After having a hand in planning dozens of class reunions, including some of my own, I am so very excited and honored to be asked to help with this, the Big Bopper of Sock Hops. Planners are alerting local reunion committees and lining up entertainment, food and beverage, activities, gifts and other surprises following the 1950s motif. Guests of any age can show off their rockin - sockin dancing talents to the sounds of local award-winning band, The White Sidewalls. Guests wearing fifties garb, school colors and displays of historic photos and videos will create a back- to-then atmosphere. In addition to honoring local 1956 high school graduates, Southdale Center wishes to salute those who were employed in the center at the time of the opening. A special area will be set for them to reunite. The principal sponsor for this free-to-the-public event is Minneapolis-based Jostens, the leading provider of yearbooks, class rings, graduation products and products for athletic champions and their fans.
